Transforming your kitchen into a zero-waste space is a journey, and we're here to guide you every step of the way. By incorporating these essential items from our shop, you're not just making your kitchen more sustainable but contributing to a healthier planet.
]]>Ditch Plastic Tupperware: Say goodbye to plastic containers and opt for glass or stainless steel alternatives. Glass containers are non-toxic and won't leach harmful chemicals into your food, providing a safer option for storage.
Choose Stainless Steel Water Bottles: Bid farewell to single-use plastic water bottles and invest in a durable stainless steel bottle. Not only are these bottles reusable and better for the environment, but they also eliminate the risk of ingesting harmful chemicals.
Microwave Safely with Glass: When heating up food in the microwave, choose glass containers or plates instead of plastic. Glass is microwave-safe and won't release harmful substances when exposed to heat.
Opt for Natural Fiber Bags: Swap out single-use plastic bags for reusable bags made from natural fibers like cotton or hemp. These eco-friendly alternatives are not only safer for the environment but also reduce our exposure to potential toxins.

We never want our customers, family, friends, (whomever) to feel like they have to be perfect zero waste human beings who never purchase a piece of plastic or cheap clothing. That's not the message. The message is, do what you can, where you can. Because we think it's even better to show appreciation for the things we love and care about a little bit each day!
Insert Pachamama.
Pick up trash while you walk. At the beach or the dog park? Wash those hands, maybe carry a trash baggy and go for it! Have kids? Do a minute timer and encourage the kiddos to grab as much trash as they can.
Support conservation efforts. Aka visiting a botanical garden, planting native plants in your garden, or visiting a sustainable farm. These outings can be a great way to educate your family about earth's resources.

Imagine.
Goal: At Fill Up Buttercup we don’t throw anything away!
Reality: We produce trash.
Okay, let's get real.
It's what you’re doing with it that makes a world of difference.
Many people are sustained in today’s modern world by globalized businesses. Target, McDonalds, Starbucks, Coca-Cola, heard of ‘em? Their business models take, make and dump (aka utilizes the linear economy strategy). Mass imitation, convenience, waste and little connection between the consumer and distributor are consequences of this.
WASTE!
It’s easy to go to Starbucks, order that latte and toss it in less than an hour, trust me I know. Everything about our society encourages convenience over RRR (reduce, reuse, recycle).
What about purchasing your coffee from the farmers market every Wednesday? From people you actually know, who forage those coconuts and actually give a shit about the quality of their product.
Take it a step further.
What if you bring your own half gallon and fill up on your coffee for the week?
whooooaaaa.
Newsflash: We Are Producing More Trash Than Ever.
That's why refilling is so important!
At Fill Up Buttercup our standard is Circular Economy.
We are reducing, reusing, returning and recycling everything!
What is a Circular Economy?
A Circular Economy is a closed loop economy.
Think cycle, continuous stream, infinity.
A product is made, used, and naturally degraded or it’s leftover raw material is returned to the manufacturer to be used again!
Ahhh, that feels nice.
When you support Fill Up Buttercup you support circular economies.
You support paying for product, not packaging.
You support cleaner oceans and clearer skies.
So, how do we handle our waste?
We work with distributors who embrace circular economies.

If you’re like me, stepping into Jamie’s shop was like finding a new ice cream shop!
A place like this exists!? You’re telling me I can bring my own jars, fill up on personal and household products, reduce my need for plastic, and support a local business?
Heart EYES all over!
This is sustainable living.
This is community.
This is a place you leave feeling a little more whole.
Your first visit may be a little intimidating, where do I begin?
Geez, I use so much plastic, crap, I can do a better job.
HEY! You found this place which means you are one step closer. Take a breath, ask some questions, and I guarantee you’ll be back.
Switching over to sustainable products doesn’t happen overnight.
WHY? Because the options at Target or Whole Foods do not cater to a sustainable lifestyle. No shade Target but, your products are sold individually with ingredient labels the size of a CVS receipt. Navigating that is challenging and having a one stop shop makes a world of difference.
Take it from someone who started this journey 4 years ago, after reading Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry, a book my father gave me three years earlier. I spent hours navigating the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database charting the toxicity levels of my household products and researching where I could find clean alternatives.
Countless hours online, tons of non-recyclable packaging delivered, and the occasional product I did not like.
Queue: Fill Up, Buttercup! A place where non-toxic and zero waste are a given.
So when do you come here?
Um...Always!
But seriously, come when a product runs out, that shampoo bottle that's getting a little low is a perfect time to come in. Don’t guilt yourself into buying something you have at home already. It’s okay to finish that product.
This is where convenience and conscientiousness meet and you’re welcome anytime!
So how DOES it work?
What do you need?
What can you switch, not sure?
Once you arrive you’ll be easily reminded.
The options are endless.
What do I put my new shampoo, lotion or dish soap in?
Well, Bring or Buy a container (a one time purchase if needed).
Now the fun part...
(TARE) Weigh the empty container **add the weight to your fill up sheet**
(FILL) Fill the container! **It gets messy, no sweat, we have plenty of towels**
(WEIGH) Reweigh the container with your new product
**write it down & do a little math (filled container - empty container = product weight x cost of the item) don’t worry we have a calculator & will walk you through the process your first few times**
(LABEL) Ask for a label and enjoy!
(REFILL) Keep the cycle going and come in when you run out or swap out an item if you didn’t like it!
