After shampooing, just massage the wet bar over the ends of your hair until they’re saturated, then let sit for a few mins and rinse—just like your ordinary conditioner. Many people only apply the conditioner bar to the ends of their hair, so try that too. You may not need to apply conditioner near your scalp.
Tangie Conditioner Bars also give you versatility. Unlike its bottled predecessor, a zero waste conditioner bar can be used in several ways. Use as an In-Shower Rinse, In-Shower Soft Bar or Leave-In Conditioner.
HOW TO SOFTEN THE BAR.
- Place one conditioner bar inside a lidded container.
- Fill with a few ounces of water to cover the bar, let sit for 24 hours, flipping over half way through for each side of the bar to soak up water.
- The bar will plump up in size and will be soft, like the texture of cream cheese.
- The more water you use, the larger and softer the bar gets.
- After the initial soak, you can easily adjust the water to bring the bar to a softness you like best.
- Use a container that is wider than the bar to accommodate the increase in bar size and for you to be able to easily remove it once softened.
- This bar will last you for months, even with regular use.
A good hair care routine will strengthen your hair shaft, helping to prevent split ends and breakage.

We chose to use behentrimonium methosulfate in the ingredients as the plant-based emulsifier. It is derived from Brassica napus Linnaeus, also known as rapeseed. We know words that are hard to pronounce can be intimidating, but be assured we always strive to make our waste free products without any harmful chemicals or toxins.
Here is some science of Behentrimonium Methosulfate:
It is a quaternary ammonium salt. Generally found in hair conditioners to provide anti-static properties and as a conditioning agent. DO NOT confuse Behentrimonium Methosulfate with Behentrimonium Chloride, which is toxic.
Behentrimonium Methosulfate is an example of an quaternary ammonium ingredient that contains the sulfate compound (SO42-), but due to it being a cationic surfactant, the chemical process to produce this ingredient is less irritating and creates a more neutral/stable compound. As a matter of fact, this particular ingredient has the ability to impart some great conditioning properties to the hair by increasing slip and aiding in closing the cuticle, due to its cationic nature. This is just one example of a no-no ingredient that has some beneficial attributes, when used in the right context.

From the founder:
For as long as I can remember, I have had sensitivities to many store bought products. I realized that certain ingredients would probably be the cause of the problem. So, I began creating my own waste free product “recipes” for body and household use. In the beginning, I wanted to clean my windows naturally… without harsh chemicals. I did some reading and researching. The first old school formula I found that made sense was vinegar and water. Wow! Clean windows without chemicals!
Then I began reading about petroleum-based ingredients. I didn’t need a degree in rocket science to figure out that I was wearing those petro-chemicals everyday. Yuck! Gross! Plastic Free Laundry soap was my next “product”.
My first recipes were straight off the internet. You’ve probably seen it; the Borax, Washing Soda and Fels Naptha soap. At that time, according to the internet; that was how to make “natural plastic free laundry soap”. Natural soap with man made chemicals? No! There had to be a better way. What did people use to clean their clothes a long long time ago? I researched and read everything I could find regarding natural ingredients and clothes cleaning. Finally I came upon real natural ingredients. I’m talking yucca root, hazelnuts and soap nuts. Yep, I would start washing my clothes with nuts and berries.
For 1,000’s of years before me, that’s what people did to get clean clothes. My interest was as high. I scoured the internet and library for details. What I was learning would eventually hone my eco-skills and turn me into a daily eco-warrior.
The more I learned, the more I reworked my formulas! It felt good putting the ancient and eco-friendly cleaning ingredients to use. I formulated and tested. Load after load. Small changes… big changes. When finally, I did it…no more borax or washing soda…or Fels Naptha! The new formula worked. I worked on white clothes and clothes with color. It worked on clothes made of all types of fabrics. The clothes emerged from the washing machine like a Phoenix rising from the ashes — ok, so maybe it was more like a clean shirt emerging from the dryer.
The formulation worked and it was here to stay!
I am extremely proud of my efforts to get a liquid laundry plastic free laundry soap into a concentrated paste form. There is nothing like these products on the market.
All of these waste free products do the job – without harsh chemicals.
No excess water weight!
No excessive plastic containers to throw away each month.
The effectiveness and affordability is awesome.
Everything I mentioned applies to all of our products. We guarantee 100% waste free and plastic free products.
