Hi! I’m Jamie, a California native and self-proclaimed hippie with a deep love for the planet and its people.

Fill Up Buttercup was born out of two of my biggest passions: nontoxic living and reducing plastic pollution.

This journey began with a deeply personal mission: helping reduce my father's toxic burden in the hopes of managing his Multiple Sclerosis by transitioning to cleaner, nontoxic skincare and household products. As I replaced his items and eventually my own with healthier alternatives, I experienced an unexpected transformation in my own life.

For years, I dealt with a slight tremor. But when I eliminated heavily fragranced products, my nervous system finally found relief, and the tremor vanished. This was a life-changing revelation: if these changes could help me, they could help others too.

Did you know the word “fragrance” on a product label can mean almost anything? Companies aren’t required to disclose the ingredients in their “proprietary” blends. Even more concerning, U.S. cleaning products aren’t legally required to list their ingredients at all. It’s shocking and alarming.

At the same time, I spent countless hours cleaning trash from California’s beautiful beaches. While it felt rewarding to know that waste wouldn’t end up in the ocean, I realized it was just a band-aid solution. The real answer lies in reducing single-use plastics and embracing reusables. However, finding high-quality, low-waste alternatives was a challenge, and it soon became my full-time mission.

That’s how Fill Up Buttercup was born. It’s a one-stop shop for nontoxic, sustainable household essentials, all available in bulk so you can refill your own containers. We also offer compostable and biodegradable products, making it easier than ever to live lighter on the planet.

MEET OUR TEAM

Fill Up Buttercup has become so much more than a shop. It’s a space for connection, inspiration, and education. A place where we can come together to create a cleaner, healthier world for ourselves and future generations.

COCO

What’s your favorite product in the store? My favorite products in the store have to be the dip shampoo and conditioner which leaves my hair so moisturized and defines my wavy hair. Tied with the dip has to be honeybee hippie's face wash it leaves my skin feeling so soft.
What’s a piece of advice for someone starting out in their nontoxic or zero waste journey? I would tell everyone to take a deep breath and just start with one product at a time! Each week change one thing to non toxic and by the time your done your life will be completely nontoxic!
What was one of your first experiences learning about nontoxic or zero waste? Or what started it all? My whole life my family has been non toxic. My mom is a super hippie lady that would always be making products at home and now has a skincare line! I never realized how big of a blessing she was until I grew up and would try random skin care products and they did not work. I realized that she was always right and non toxic products are the way to go!
What’s a fun fact about you or hobby/interests outside of the store? In my free time I love to thrift and find vintage clothing and accessories. I also love to move my body by going on walks and hiking.

What’s a piece of advice for someone starting out in their nontoxic or zero waste journey? One piece of advice would have to be to take your time, and have fun with it! There is no deadline when it comes to switching over to non-toxic. It also is so much fun to learn about the different benefits that each product has!

What was one of your first experiences learning about nontoxic or zero waste? Or what started it all? One of the first things I learned while working here would have to be the fact that a lot of the problems we see in our body whether that’s anxiety, difficulty sleeping or common illnesses can be caused by toxic products.

What’s a fun fact about you or hobby/interests outside of the store? I love anything to do with the beach! I love collecting seashells, playing beach volleyball, and hanging out with my friends and family. I also love finding good music artists and making random playlists.

SHELBY

What’s your favorite product in the store? My favorite product we carry is our paperless paper towels ! I haven’t had to purchase single use paper towels in 3 years and it’s so entertaining watching guests reactions when I hand them one to clean up a spill or use as a napkin.
What’s a piece of advice for someone starting out in their nontoxic or zero waste journey? It’s not about being perfect! So many of us have this perfectionist mentality but sustainability is all about being imperfect!
What was one of your first experiences learning about nontoxic or zero waste? Or what started it all? My first experience in zero waste was visiting my local refill shop and refilling an old all purpose container. I thought it was such a cool concept and it made me giddy knowing I was stopping hundreds of containers from ending up in the landfill.
What’s a fun fact about you or hobby/interests outside of the store? I love going to the beach during low tide to hunt for sea glass and other treasures! I love being creative in my artwork and am constantly trying out new mediums and materials to make something magical!
